4月17日，马来西亚农业部称，马来西亚农业和粮食安全部与中国海关总署签署了《马来西亚新鲜椰子输华植物检疫要求议定书》。马来西亚将向中国出口新鲜椰子，优先考虑其优质芳香品种，尤其是以独特的香兰香味和天然甜味而闻名的香兰椰子（pandan）。
此前马来西亚仅依据一般植物检疫证书向中国出口椰子，并没有任何具体的协议。随着该协议的实施，马方将更加重视对注册农场遵守良好农业规范（myGAP）和遵守综合虫害管理（IPM）系统的要求。这些措施将确保只有符合国际标准的优质、安全的椰子才能出口。
据估计，马来西亚约有6万名椰子种植户，其中小农户贡献了全国椰子总产量的80%以上。2023年马来西亚的椰子产量达到62.4万吨，其中6,000吨椰青出口到国外。同时马来西亚进口超过27.8万吨老椰子，以满足椰子加工行业的特定需求，主要是生产椰奶、椰丝、椰蓉等相关产品。
